march 2006

my dad threatened to leave abusive messages if i didn’t update my blog – and there’s a sentence no-one would have written twenty years ago.

so: hello! sorry for the unexpected hiatus, not helped by the fact that my computer kept disconnecting approximately every 2 minutes (grr). it seems to be sorted out now, although not before i had to de-install the old anti-virus and install a new one – whose email filter i suspect of being a little too thorough but we’ll see… hopefully everything’s getting through ok. and it’s free! so! whilst i wasn’t blogging, what did i do? one thing i did was watch must love dogs, which i’m not linking to because it so offended me i wanted to take a sledgehammer to my portable dvd player – and no-one should be made to feel that way by a romantic comedy. i wasn’t offended because it was pap, although it was: my pap tolerance threshold is very high, i’ve enjoyed many a pile of schmaltz.

but this film!

july 2006

sometimes you’re in the midst of a situation so horribly demoralising that the only way to survive it is to imagine how you’re going to blog about it. that was how i coped with today’s hair disaster. it wasn’t a hair disaster in the standard sense: my hair looks GOOD. bloody good, in fact one of the best cuts i’ve ever had. but is the end result worth it if your self esteem is chopped to pieces along with all your excess hair?

august 2007

i was a latecomer to janet evanovich but after loving one for the money, i vowed to finish the series (now at 13 and growing…)

so there i was happily reading the otherwise excellent two for the dough last weekend, when something suddenly stopped me short.

i read the following excerpt, then scraped my head from the ceiling and read it again:

i stumbled into the bathroom and stuck my head into the toilet to throw up. after a few minutes i decided i wasn’t going to throw up (which was kind of too bad since it’d be good to get rid of the hot fudge sundae i’d had)

what? WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAT? what kind of anti-feminist, pro-bulimia, totally irrelevant self-hating bullshit crap is this?

size 12 is not fat

Posted on September 10, 2007. Filed under: it's my life, rants etc |

p>september 2006

having being thin, or at least thin-ish my whole life, i am now fat. not big, curvy or overweight – let’s just lay it on the line: i’m fat. due to a combination of illness (meaning i can’t exercise – and we’re not talking a cold here) under-active thyroid, low oestrogen and comfort eating due to depression, i’m really pretty fat. and it ain’t pretty. normally it doesn’t bother me that much. i still see myself as a UK size 12 and so as long as i don’t linger over mirrors or look down in the shower, i’m not disabused of that notion and don’t think about my body very much. or not in those terms – i think it’s pretty superficial to do so, given that my big bodily problems are not about how it looks, but how it (doesn’t) function.

october 2006

i know that i need to keep working on not letting other people’s words and feelings affect me so much and on getting into healthier thought patterns -a nd i’m sure i’ll get there! – but when people make it clear they look down on me for writing for a chick-lit website, it BURNS ME UP, sticks in my craw and makes me want to throw rocks at my computer.

‘k?
