must NOT love dogs…

march 2006

my dad threatened to leave abusive messages if i didn’t update my blog – and there’s a sentence no-one would have written twenty years ago.

so: hello! sorry for the unexpected hiatus, not helped by the fact that my computer kept disconnecting approximately every 2 minutes (grr). it seems to be sorted out now, although not before i had to de-install the old anti-virus and install a new one – whose email filter i suspect of being a little too thorough but we’ll see… hopefully everything’s getting through ok. and it’s free! so! whilst i wasn’t blogging, what did i do? one thing i did was watch must love dogs, which i’m not linking to because it so offended me i wanted to take a sledgehammer to my portable dvd player – and no-one should be made to feel that way by a romantic comedy. i wasn’t offended because it was pap, although it was: my pap tolerance threshold is very high, i’ve enjoyed many a pile of schmaltz.

but this film!

the apprentice: the final reckoning!

LIVEBLOG: The Apprentice Final, BBC1, Wednesday, 9pm

Bum-be-bum-be-bum-be-bum… (That’s me singing the theme tune in excited anticipation if you weren’t quite sure). After twelve weeks in which we were introduced to doggy backpacks, the worst display of live-on-TV sales in the entire world ever and of course… Tre it’s almost time to wave goodbye to Surallen, Nick, Margaret and all the hapless candidates. But not before either Simon or Kristina is offered the brilliant prize of a job with Sir Alan Sugar. Who will win?

Join me as I LIVEBLOG The Apprentice: The Final!

9.00 Bum-be-bum-be-bum-be-bum… long opening, usual rehash, reminder of last week’s "grilling". Simon and Kristina are at the house, chatting and packing and comparing wins and losses. Guess what? It’s Simon’s "dream" to win The Apprentice. WHAT an original thought. Kristina’s got one too: she doesn’t want to lose.

august 2007

i was a latecomer to janet evanovich but after loving one for the money, i vowed to finish the series (now at 13 and growing…)

so there i was happily reading the otherwise excellent two for the dough last weekend, when something suddenly stopped me short.

i read the following excerpt, then scraped my head from the ceiling and read it again:

i stumbled into the bathroom and stuck my head into the toilet to throw up. after a few minutes i decided i wasn’t going to throw up (which was kind of too bad since it’d be good to get rid of the hot fudge sundae i’d had)

what? WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAT? what kind of anti-feminist, pro-bulimia, totally irrelevant self-hating bullshit crap is this?

carrie on…

Posted on September 3, 2007. Filed under: blurbage, pop culture |

richard and judy had CARRIE! FISHER! on their show yesterday – i nearly died of excitement. (she’d lost weight and was looking very polished and fabulous, which is what i now need to do).

anyway! i looooooooooooooooove C.F, and not because of anything to do with star wars but because of her books, her other films (when harry met sally, hannah and her sisters etc.) her screenwriting, her enormous wit and her interesting life.

she’s handled alcoholism, drug addiction, bipolar disease, having super-famous parents (who do things like marry elizabeth taylor) and being left by her gay husband… with enormous aplomb.
she should be made a dame! (and also, british)- and i don’t even believe in the honours system.

AND! AND! AND! she’s adapting her latest book the best awful as a series for HBO — how great will that be!!! (my guess: VERY VERY great) and then she’s going to work on a new book based in part on her 1970s diaries!

*squeals*

me and bridget jones

Posted on August 6, 2007. Filed under: blurbage, bookstuff, pop culture |

june 2007

saturday 16th june

hours spent sleeping: 16 (not v.g), crying attacks: too numerous to mention, minor panic attacks also too numerous to mention, apple juices 3, times laughed at bridget jones’s diary: 10 approx (v.g).

12pm wake up. feel exhausted and as if have been injected with terrible sleep-inducing drugs. also miserable. read some of bridget jones’s diary. slink to computer to check emails. have one from dorothy perkins. feel sad. pootle on computer for a bit then go to loo, cry about how bad i feel, hyperventilate, entertain the thought that if i continue to feel like this will end up alone and eaten by alsatians a la bridget’s worst fears.

1.30 am total cow to my poor mum. cry. wonder how i’ll find energy to get through rest of day. panic, cry. re-heat leftovers for lunch and watch the hills and something else i immediately forget the name of.

2.30 read some more bridget in bed.

3.00 text from step-sister re our plans for tomorrow. in wild burst of optimism say i’m sure i’ll be fine. plan to have quick nap, then shower and prepare self for sunday. will be OK.

october 2006

i know that i need to keep working on not letting other people’s words and feelings affect me so much and on getting into healthier thought patterns -a nd i’m sure i’ll get there! – but when people make it clear they look down on me for writing for a chick-lit website, it BURNS ME UP, sticks in my craw and makes me want to throw rocks at my computer.

‘k?

tidings of comfort and beef

Posted on June 14, 2007. Filed under: blurbage, it's my life, never complain, pop culture |

beef? why yes, we DID have beef for christmas lunch, and despite my reservations, it was de-LISH-usssss! of course, being spoiled, i wanted turkey too, so i cooked some myself and took it with, to be traditional. (<< very unlike me!) and then i stuffed my face at my auntie and uncle’s.

and then after lunch, to help – i slumped like a gorm. (<< very like me!)

my gramps didn’t want to stay too long so by five PM, we were all home and my ma and i slumped in front of the telly for a gilmore girls series 4 (my mum was waaaaay behind) and will and grace series 8 DVD marathon, broken up by the scd xmas spesh (zoe! LOVED it!) and some more food.

i felt a bit subdued this year, i have to say. i lurve me some christmas and last year, i was full of warmth and love and wine and excitement. this year? it was fine, i got great presents, i love my peeps… but… it was probably the virus and the exhaustion of moving but i was just a bit ‘meh’ about everything. anti-climatic.

but speaking of great presents, some highlights for you:
